Roaccutane Side Effect

by Alex
(Iran)

I am 22 years old and I have used Roaccutane for 2 months (20 mg BID). I tested my blood and liver functions. My cholesterol levels increased after starting the treatment. Now I'm worried about it. Do I stop the treatment? Or slow it down?

Yvette's reply: Rising cholesterol is one of the side effects of taking accutane. You need to consult with your doctor to see if the jump in cholesterol levels is severe.

In most cases if the cholesterol level stablizes you needn't worry too much. A suggestion is to get another blood test to monitor your levels and see if they are still rising. Also it is important that you are following a healthy diet. Check with your doctor, he or she may give you something to lower the cholesterol.
